More on the Gamushara! Sexy Natsu Matsuri results

Like I said in my last post, I'm going to write full reports, but since someone on twitter so kindly made these charts, I'm going to go ahead and post them along with some thoughts about the final results.

But first I'm just going to stick a glossary here in case anyone is having trouble reading the Japanese on the charts. ^^; Sorry that I didn't make new ones in English, but I think they're pretty easy to follow based on formatting.

我 - Ga [blue] (Jesse, Masuda, Hanzawa, Iwamoto, Fukasawa)
武 - Mu [red] (Iwahashi, Matsuda, Takahashi K, Takahashi F, Hayashi)
者 - Sha [green] (Jinguji, Nakamura, Matsukura, Tajima, Inoue)
羅 - Ra [yellow] (Matsumura, Kyomoto, Tanaka, Morimoto, Morohoshi)
位 - [i] place (ex: 1位 = first place)
結果 - [kekka] result
観客 - [kankyaku] audience
分け - [wake] tie (represented by pink on the second chart)
部 - [bu] counter for shows (ex: 1部 would be the first show of the day)
平均 - [heikin] average
勝つ - [katsu] win
負ける - [makeru] lose

So first up, we have a chart of the final results:

From the chart, you can see that in terms of shows won by the audience alone, Sha had a ridiculous number more than the rest of the teams. Eleven shows! If they had ranked by that, Sha would have had a landslide win. Obviously, Johnny's had to rig it to keep the competition
"exciting," but it's a little disappointed that those amazing scores never came to anything.

And then, if you look, Mu is in last place despite having the same number of decibels in total as Team Ra, in first place. So despite the way the scores turned out, they actually had as much support as Team Ra did. It just goes to show that the scoring for the show really didn't reflect the actual support that the guys were getting.

But you can see even more in detail if you look at the detailed results in the next table:

First of all, in this graphic version, it's really easy to see how much Sha creamed Ga and Ra. Neither Ga nor Ra won even one show against Sha in terms of the audience decibels. The only team that Sha was evenly matched with was Mu, who seem to have been combined victims of chance (which team had more fans in the audience which day, which fans were closer to the mic) and of either Johnny's rigging or the juniors respecting more the senpai who are older than them-- Yasui told the audience that the Juniors were to make it impartial since we all have favourites who we think are cool, but it's not exactly like the Juniors are impartial, either. They all have admired senpai, and some of the older ones are peers with members of Team Mu and Team Sha. Of course they'd vote for the older teams.

You can also make note here that Team Mu had the highest scoring decibel level of the whole run in the first show, 111 db. The lowest score of the whole show was by Team Ga, 95 db.

But then, I was curious to see by how much each team had won in terms of decibels in each show, so I went ahead and made a few more charts:



This is a chart of the decibel difference between the winning team and the losing team for each show. The decibel value is coloured to match the colour of the winning team. You can see from this chart that, by in large, Sha and Mu beat Ga and Ra by much higher numbers than Ga and Ra beat Sha and Mu. Sha and Mu seemed to have been more evenly matched, and Ga and Ra also seemed to be more evenly matched.

But just to make it easier to see, I averaged everything here:



On the left, we have each team's average score in decibels against a certain other team. You'll notice that Mu and Sha's tend to be higher than Ra and Ga's. On the right, we have the average number more points each team had than the other teams in matches where that team won. Mu and Sha tended to win by more than Ra and Ga did.

I know this probably seems like beating a dead horse, but my point in posting is not to show that any team was "better" than another, but rather to show that the scoring was sort of a randomly-decided way to rank them, and that, in the end, it didn't necessarily measure the amount of support each team was getting. Yes, I know it was a popularity contest at best and a haphazard mess at worst, but it really makes me sad to think about the boys thinking they're big failures when really, they were very well received. I wish I could send all this data to them, but since I can't, I'm sharing it here on my journal.

I still need to write shiritori tonight, oops. x__x; This is just another piece of proof that I'm a huge, obsessive nerd when it comes to fandom.

Team Sha sugoi ♥ It's crazy how many shows they won by the audience, and by what big margins for the most part. And it's crazy how the results would have been completely different by audience wins, by junior wins, and by total decibels... I just hope the guys realize that a little bit and don't feel too awful ;___;

Team Sha was amazing. It really is crazy just how many shows they won, especially compared to everyone else. But yeah, the scoring system was crap… I mean, obviously it was supposed to be exciting, but it would have been best if all the teams could be rewarded. ;___;

Ahahaha aww, I wanted to hear the "lot of things." But yeah, it really does suck, for everyone. They all worked really hard, and no one deserved to be singled out the way that Team Mu did.

re: team ra - when gamushara was announced i looked at the teams and thought to myself, "oh, ra's the winner." like there was literally no doubt in my mind that whatever system was used & no matter how "impartial" it was, ra was going to win. you don't stack a team with older/more popular juniors & then expect it to lose. so, while i'm disappointed that ra won (SORRY TAIGA SORRY my taiga fan card is going to be revoked with my kenty bighead fan card), i'm not at alllll surprised. not in the least.

so, in assuming that the system would always favor ra, this also means that the system was set up to not favor the other teams. i don't for one single second believe that it was ever left up to chance. the only thing that could not be controlled/anticipated was the audience vote and, uh, how about those results, huh? if the scoring system was truly impartial, there would not be such a great disparity between what the fans thought & what the juniors thought. a few shows, okay, fine. every show? no.

It just goes to show that the scoring for the show really didn't reflect the actual support that the guys were getting.
of course. because, basically, the team that was supposed to win, won. the team that was supposed to lose, lost.

I agree with all of this, and always sort of figured that Team Ra would win because they just are stacked to get the fan vote, anyway, but what doesn't make sense to me is the way that it happened. I feel like having a range of scores makes good TV, not having a 3-way tie. I also don't think playing Team Mu up as the underdog the whole time just to have them fail miserably makes good TV. I'm not saying it wasn't rigged because it clearly was, but I just don't get why they'd make it turn out this way. I was sort of expecting Mu to come up and get second place to Ra or even beat them in the end, what with how the TV show had been going, so I'm just confused and disappointed all around.

Seriously, though, in my pettiest heart of hearts, LOOK AT TEAM SHA'S 11-1 SCORE. Why was that team not the winner when they creamed the other teams in audience vote. Sheesh.

yeeep. especially because people want the underdog to win, not to lose, so what happened is unfair not only to (but especially to) the boys but also to the fans. it's cruel. it's sadistic. it's exactly what i expect from johnny's.

Fair enough. XD Usually I'd expect them to be cruel in the name of entertainment, but this I just don't get. I guess in the long run it might be a ploy to make the fans feel even more sorry for Genki and want to be his big sister and nurture him even more or something, but it just seems so like "…why?" x__x;

Idk. The whole thing was just crazy stressful to me and I hope the boys know they did an amazing job no matter what.

omg how could i forget the sympathy angle?! haha. i just don't know what we're supposed to get from these results either?? maybe we really are supposed to want to be genki's nee-chans & throw ourselves at queen taiga's feet as though, yes, we all really like reia/jin-chan/etc but to see ra not win would have been blasphemous. idek anymore. it's so frustrating.

Yeah, I think that's what it has to be with Genki because otherwise I can't make it make any tiny bit of sense in my head lol Also we're supposed to think that Hokuto is the ~hottest double dutch prince ever (or something??) but I guess Jinguji is a close second? Even though Ra never won the audience vote once against Sha. :|

Mostly I just feel frustrated for them and I hope they know that with just the factual results, they did really well, both Sha and Mu. >__<;

This is all really interesting data, speaking as somebody not in Japan who couldn't see any of the shows or how the system worked. Thanks for putting it together.

I do feel bad for the boys, in that JE guys all tend to be competitive so I'm sure many of them have hurt feelings about the situation. But overall I thought it was really cool that they all got to try new skills and challenge something hard, and I think everybody's performances came out nicely in the end, so I was proud of every single team. I think a lot of them grew so much this summer. I hope (and really I'm sure that this is true) that all the boys have staff or senpai they respect tell them how much they grew and how proud they should be of themselves, and that after a little bit of distance they'll believe that themselves.

I actually hope, although not exactly like this, that Gamushara keeps doing things like this. It's so nice to learn different guys and see them spotlighted and how they interact with each other. It's a lot like the old Ya-Ya-yah show, which I miss for that reason.

You're welcome! I'm really glad that other people are finding it of use. I was really excited to put it all together because I'm a nerd, so I'm happy that you found it interesting too.

I think that the competition was a really cool and interesting premise, and honestly, if the results had turned out almost any other way besides a 3-way tie and one team behind, I wouldn't have felt as bad. I agree, I hope that there were staff and senpai and friends to tell them how great they were, but it just seemed unnecessarily harsh, especially to Team Mu who had an endless cycle of sick and injured members. All four teams had really awesome performances and each and every single guy deserves to feel like a winner.

I hadn't thought about it being like Ya-ya-yah, but you're right! I hope that they continue doing the performance battles, but perhaps not ones where they have to compete against one another. I like seeing them try something new, but not having see one team lose for the other team to win. I know I'm sort of a wimp about it, but I just want all of them to be able to be happy!

Omg all the charts XD you're awesome.

This really does highlight so well how fucking random the scoring was, and how different the official results were from the audience response (which in and of itself is so chancy with who's in the audience and who's close to the mic and I refuse to believe that was a terribly accurate setup they had there it was probably the cheapest decibel measure they could get at donki >>). It really was a messed up system - I hope the guys see stuff like this, and don't take the "loss" too badly ;~~~;

Also team Sha, what bamfs, Jinchan and Reia fans are hardcore XD;;

Yeah, I just really hope this information got to the guys somehow. They all did amazing, and the way the scoring turned out was really not fair to all the hard work that every team put in. ;__;

Thinking about it, like another commenter said, as soon as the teams were announced I kind of already 'knew' that team ra would win, because look at the members :x But you already know my feelings on a lot of things relating to this -- and like you, if it had been ANYTHING other than three teams winning and one team losing - regardless of whom that losing team might be - I'd've been happier with the outcome.

ugh I keep doing stuff and then tabbing back to this post and forgetting what I was going to say XD;; I love the charts, btw, thank you for making the other ones too ;; I shall content myself with the fact that team Mu's fans were the second loudest overall, that's close enough for me u_u

Yeah, when the results first started coming out, yomimashou and I guessed that Ra would win because the team was totally stacked. But the way things came out were a mess. Better that Ra should have actually WON and there could have been a gradient of scores, not the mess that it actually was.

Aww XD It's fine. I'm glad you liked the charts! And Team Mu's fans were actually the loudest along with Ra, it's just that Sha won by more in each match that they won XD
