good things ♥
Feb. 12th, 2016 11:37 pmIt's always nice to have a few good things to focus on at the end of the week ♥ Right now I'm happy about:
① Inochan was on a variety show where the MC was Chihara Junior, and Chihara Junior raved about how cute Inoo is, and even offered to take him on a trip together to Africa. ♥ I'm so glad that so many people are seeing all the wonderful charms of this boy. ♥
②

I gave out my chocolates at elementary school~ I think they went over well!
③ I think I'm mostly over being sick! Knock on wood, but I'm feeling a lot better.
④ A friend is coming over tomorrow to watch some JUMP stuff! It's my friend who's an Arashi fan but has been interested in seeing some JUMP things, so I hope she enjoys some stuff from the new concert, and Sensations~
Now to get to bed early~

Brevity of JUMP Concert DVDs
Date: 2016-02-14 05:18 am (UTC)Re: Brevity of JUMP Concert DVDs
Date: 2016-02-14 05:53 am (UTC)As for the actual length of the concert, two hours is standard for Johnny's groups who don't play Dome venues and groups that have younger members. Because Domes let daylight in, by and large, groups that play Domes only have one show per day, but Arenas and other smaller venues usually have completely enclosed spaces, and therefore can have an afternoon show. When there are two shows in one day, the shows pretty much have to be limited to two hours so that the boys have a break between shows. The JUMPing CARnival concerts that I attended (twice in Nagoya, 3 times in Yokohama) were all almost exactly 2 hours and fifteen minutes, but what's on the DVD is slightly shorter because a lot of the MC was cut, a preview for the Ansatsu Kyoushitsu movie was also cut, and some of the wait time between the end of the show and the encore was cut, too. This isn't just JUMP; Sexy Zone and Junior concerts are also only 2 hours (Junior concerts are actually often shorter; the shortest concert I ever went to was 1 hour and 45 minutes including the wait time and the encore). The concerts for groups like KisuMai, NEWS, and Arashi that I've been to have been longer because they've been in Domes and therefore only had one show in the day. 2 hours is really quite standard for groups who play smaller venues.
As for extras, it's anyone's guess why some groups get different extras than others. For example, JUMP has always had making videos on their singles while NEWS did not have them during the same time period. So I don't particularly think that it's the management's intention to "cheat" JUMP fans, but I can't tell you why their recent DVDs have multi-angle rather than making footage. Personally, I really enjoy the solo angle footage, so while I'd like to see a making, too, I'm not really upset. Looking at the DVDs I happen to have sitting here, Sexy Zone's 2014 Summer Concert DVD has two disc that are 114 minutes (1 hour and 54 minutes) and 37 minutes respectively. The JUMPing CARnival DVD has two discs that are 112 minutes (1 hour and 52 minutes) and 118 minutes (1 hour and 58 minutes) respectively. The JUMPing CARnival DVD actually has more footage, and the concert segments are almost exactly the same length. Meanwhile, KisuMai's Snow Dome DVD has the Snow Dome concert, a digest of the Good Ikuze tour, and a backstage documentary of the Good Ikuze Tour, while JUMP's s3art DVD has the s3art tour, a digest of the Live With Me concert, and solo angles for s3art. While it's not the same content, it's pretty comparable, in my opinion. The two discs of Snow Dome no Yakusoku add up to 247 minutes, while s3art's 3 discs add up to 269 minutes total, which means that even though KisuMai's concert was longer, they have fewer extras, and fewer total minutes of footage.
So while I can't answer your question because I don't work for Johnny's and I don't know why these decisions are made, I guess my thoughts are that JUMP's DVDs aren't so much shorter than those of other Johnny's groups. They're pretty comparable to the other groups that I have their DVDs, actually. Usually, JUMP's DVDs are actually longer than the other groups I own? I'm not sure what "other debuted Johnny's groups" you're comparing them to, but my observation is that while the content is different, they have just as much content as other groups whose DVDs I own. I'm sorry that I can't offer any more insight than this… believe me, I wish I knew why the agency makes the decisions that it makes, too!

Date: 2016-02-14 09:33 pm (UTC)Your comments on length of performance based on the type of arena or other venue was super-interesting! Being a male Johnny's fan in Tennessee, USA, is not easy in a lot of ways, but especially since I cannot see any Johnny's programs and because I probably will never be able to attend a concert or even travel to Japan, so I think you are wonderfully fortunate and blessed to have attended their concerts. I'm just glad I am able to see these on DVDs, though, and can occasionally check out great blogs like yours! Keep up the good work!

Date: 2016-02-17 01:11 am (UTC)I'm glad I could provide some insight! These are trends that I never thought about before I lived in Japan, but there are definitely things that you come to understand just by going to a lot of concerts. I definitely feel lucky that I'm able to go to concerts, but I also worked really hard to learn Japanese and get a job in Japan, so I hope some day you have the opportunity to come see them live, too! If you want to watch their TV programs, there are often rips available from the JUMP community, if you have a livejournal account. But I'm really quite flattered that you enjoy my blog, and thanks again for your comment!
