faded_laceOkay, so here's deal. I got bored and wrote (you guessed it) CATS yaoi after being forced to watch it again by my artistic director's daughter (I noticed MORE yaoi this time...xD;;). However, to make it work, I took major liberties with the plot. Below this next cut is my alternate cats universe which I bent so I could write it. If you want to read it so the story makes sense, go ahead. If you want to read the story without, also go ahead, but it will make less sense. If you want to only read my little explanation thingy without reading the story, you're welcome to but you'll think I'm on crack. ;;
Kit's CATS AU (you know, there's something funny about the phrase "Kit's CATS." XD)
So. In CATS, it never explains much about what a Jellicle Cat is. I decided that a Jellicle Cat is a cat that has the power to choose forms between a catgirl/boy or a normal cat like any other. Jellicle Cats can go to school, work, or whatever, even though they have cat ears and tails because they;re all magicky and invisible to humans. As normal cats, they may have once-in-a-while owners who they go to see when they feel like it, but sometimes neglect when they are off being catboys and girls. They go to the Jellicle Ball every year and Old Deuteronomy chooses someone to go to the Heavy-Side Layer. They spend a while there (half a year or something) until they are reborn and come back as a Jellicle Kitten. Yosh. There it is. Feel free to tell me what a loser I am. xD;;;

In the days following the Jellicle Ball, Quaxo "Mister" Mistoffelees was always distant and silent. Not that he wasn't usually quiet and antisocial, but it was especially so after the annual midnight gathering. Jellicles who cared had their theories, those who didn't wrote it off as jealousy or his normal behaviour. But only one cat really cared enough to worry.
Rum Tum Tugger yawned, peering around a corner at the dark-haired catboy whom he was following. He still had sleep to catch up on after staying up all night a few days ago, but some things took precedence. He had shaken Electra and Etcetera for once to follow Original Conjuring Cat (stalk, really) around school, town, and, after that to his house. He knew it might seem a bit creepy, but he really wanted to find out what was wrong.
He knew it couldn't be jealousy. Mister might have been a bit full of himself, but he wouldn't question any Jellicle's claim to the the Heavy-Side Layer once it was awarded to them. Others had written it off as thoughtfulness or tiredness, but Tugger knew there had to be more to it than that. He had known Mister far too long to believe that.
Though, he reasoned as he snuck quietly to peer through Mister's bedroom window, it could possibly be deep concentration. It could be questioning the meaning of life and reincarnation and whatnot, Mister was smart and would be prone to that kind of though. He could just be preoccupied with his thoughts and theories to be very open.
No, Tugger decided as he watched Mister go about his homework in his room, he didn't seem deep in thought. When the conjurer got into one of his funks, he was known to blow off his homework that night and magically produce it, completely finished, in class the next day. So if he was really that deep in thought, he wouldn't be bothering right now.
Then what could it possibly be, Tugger wondered to himself. Why did Mister get into such a reclusive state in the days after the Jellicle Ball? There was no apparent answer, even to him. What, what could it possibly be?!
"What are you doing, you stalker?" Tugger was broken out of his frustrated thought by Mister, who had opened his window and was now staring out at him skeptically.
Tugger laughed slightly embarrassedly. "Didn't feel like using the door?"
"Yeah, right," Mister replied sarcastically, offering his hand to the other Jellicle and helping him through the window. "What is it that you want?"
Tugger made himself comfortable on Mister's bed, as he always did, before speaking. "I was just...you know, worried about you. Since you've been all distant and stuff recently. You know." Though the statement seemed relatively careless, he took great pains to make sure it sounded like his normal manner while conveying his true feelings.
Mister hesitated, then sat beside Tugger on the bed. "I was...just thinking about the Ball. You know. Mulling over what happened."
Tugger raised an eyebrow. "That's the reason why you've been so distant? That's it?"
Mister looked down at his hands, wringing them. "I...I was wondering why I've never been chosen. I want to know what I'm doing wrong." He bit his lip, visibly holding back tears. "Everyone is always impressed by me but Old Deuteronomy! What does he have against me?!" Bitter tears now broke free, rolling down his pale cheeks. "I don't know what I'm doing wrong!"
"Hey, it's all right." Mister started as Tugger put an arm around him. "I don't think you're doing anything wrong. In fact, you're doing everything right. And that's why you won't get chose any time soon."
Mister sniffed. "What?"
Tugger half-shrugged. "The guys who get reborn are usually cats who don't have anything left to do. They've gone through the best part of life and now they don't have anything left for them. What would the world do without the Original Conjuring Cat?" He smiled softly, licking the tears from the other Jellicle's face. "So don't cry. Besides, what do you think I'd do if you went away?"
Mister blushed slightly, but brushed Tugger away half-haughtily, standing up. "Pfft! How should I know that?"
Tugger also stood, his normal smirk returning to his face, and wrapped his arms around Mister's neck, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "I think you do."
