Title: The Perfect Match

Author's note: Part two of the Xingese!Roy verse! ^^ Pretty much just a continuation of the other one, but it actually explains Roy's past. Yay. ^^
He was born Rui Mustang in 1888 in Xing, to James and Yijing Mustang. His father was the Amestresian ambassador to Xing at the time, his mother the youngest daughter of the Zhan clan. Their marriage was a fairy tale; she was a maid in his household, they fell in love, and they got married (when retelling the story, people usually left out the part about Yijing already being pregnant during the wedding). Soon, they had a child, a boy. They were a happy, if unorthodox couple.
And then, one day, James took his son for an outing. Yijing had meant to come along, but she had been feeling a little under the weather and decided to stay at home. Everything should have been fine, but, during the time of the outing, there was a horrible terrorist attack on the Amestresian embassy by an extremist isolationist terrorist group. Yijing was shot, injured quite badly. When James returned, he insisted on bringing her back to Amestris with him, dismissing the Xingese use of rentanjutsu and insisting that she be looked at by 'modern doctors.' Unfortunately, she died during the trip to Amestris.
James never returned to Xing. He left his son, renamed 'Roy' to avoid prejudice against foreigners, in the care of an alchemy teacher, before dying a few years later. He rarely left his home during his life in Amestris, and no one attended his funeral. His son learned of his death by post two weeks later.
Roy looked grim as he finished his story. Ed looked on at him, his expression softened entirely. "Roy...I..."
Roy stood and looked away. "I don't need your pity. You asked. I told you."
Ed stood also, walking up behind the Colonel and wrapping his arms around his waist. Pressing his face against Roy's back, he took a deep breath. "You and me...we really are alike, aren't we?"
A soft smile found its way onto Roy's face, despite his thoughts of his dead mother. "A perfect match."
