Disclaimer: Saiyuki is not mine.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Vague character death, one-sided 85, post trip.
Author’s note: I actually bothered to get out my history book, find Chang’an, and freehand the number of miles between there and India. xD
…
They had gone 2000 miles west, and 2000 miles back.
They had spent nearly 80000000 yen.
They had killed or caused the death of almost 3 thousand people, human or youkai.
(of which, about 20 were people they cared for, and one Jeep.)
3-and-a-quarter miles were covered on foot.
4 men were greeted with questioning stares when they arrived in Chang’an.
(4 different men had left years earlier.)
(3 years, to be exact.)
3 Santsubushin thanked them for their troubles.
2 men returned to stay at the temple.
2 men returned to live in town.
1 day a week, Goku and Sanzo came down to visit.
19 scars covered Sanzo’s body (Hakkai had intentionall left a few; the perfection bothered him.)
31 scars remained with Goku (Hakkai couldn’t make the wounds close, as much as he had tried.)
8 scars still marred Gojyo’s form (6 of which Hakkai could not be held accountable for.)
7 nights a week, Gojyo went out and gambled.
5 days a week, Hakkai taught 4th grade at the little schoolhouse that had been built in their absense.
5 evenings a week, Hakkai came home to an empty house. (it was no use coming home earlier; Gojyo seemed to be avoiding him.)
7 nights a week, Hakkai went to bed alone in the house.
15 times Hakkai had tried to tell Gojyo.
15 times he had backed out.
Multiple times a night, Hakkai thinks there has to be something more than numbers to this post-trip life; multiple times a night as he counts his 257 scars and sleep evades him. But, he decides, before falling asleep at 2 a.m. or so, the numbers are preferable to whatever else there could be.
Because 257 scars beat the hell out of one broken heart.

Date: 2006-08-27 07:52 pm (UTC)Two typos:
"8 scars still marred Gojyo’s form (6 of which Hakkai could not be hel accountable for.)" Need the "d" for held?
"15 times he had back out." Either "had to" or "had backed" right? For the tense?
Also, I had a little bit of trouble figuring out the last paragraph. It seems slightly awkward... I have no idea how to fix it, though... I mean I understood it, but yeah. Also, is that supposed to be "200 or so"?
