Title: Kaiten-Mokuba

Rating: G
Word count: 382
Warnings: kind-of shounen ai
Author’s note: This excerpt from Anbaransu na Kiss wo Shite made me think of Mokuba, partially because of Mokuba’s name and partially because of the past thing. Yes, I was on NoaMokuba high when I wrote this.
Kinou e no merry-go-round
Mokuba stared at the ceramic object before him. It was so delicate, and it had been painted pale shades of aquamarine and purple to go along with the snowy white. He wondered why Seto had given it to him. Very few words had been exchanged with the gift. Still, his brother’s words echoed in his head…
“This was his. You should have it.”
Mokuba ventured to touch it. It was cold.
Kimi wo hakunde yuku
Cold, yet not lifeless. The magical object before him retained a coldness, but it wasn’t the same as death. It made Mokuba feel rather warm, though he figured it was just the relativity between himself and the object. It made him think back to those last moments, those last painful, helpless moments.
He should have told him to wait. He should have told him that he loved him. He should have told him something. Something that wouldn’t leave him with this regret hanging over him.
Tometakute, tometakute
Mokuba looked away from the object. He didn’t want to remember. He should just forget about the whole thing, accept it as the past and that it was done and over with. But he couldn’t. He turned back to look at the mystical object once more. So this had belonged to him, Mokuba thought. He had touched, held it in his hands.
Mokuba tried to touch it again, but couldn’t find the courage, and withdrew his hand, as if he had been burned.
Boku wa kagi wo sagashite’ru
For a minute, Mokuba directed his attention to the key that lay beside it. It was gold and oxidized with time, but it captivated Mokuba. What did the key do? Gathering his courage, he reached forward and lifted the object. In the bottom, there was a keyhole. Mokuba gingerly inserted the key, the turned.
The object began to emit music. It captured Mokuba’s attention, and caught something in his throat that made it had for him to breathe. Tears were drawn to his eyes.
Yes, this merry-go-round was taking Mokuba back to the past. But he didn’t want it to stop.
~~fin~~
Afterward: The lyrics translate to “you’re on a merry-go-round taking you towards yesterday, wanting to stop, wanting to stop, I am searching for the key.”
