I HAVE INTERNET FOR THE REMAINDER OF MY VACATION. *pose* That being said, now I can finally get back to contributing to the revival! For now, I give you:

Title: Ever After

Disclaimer: Not mine.

Rating: G

Pairing: Pillar Pair (Tezuka Kunimitsu x Echizen Ryoma)

Warnings, BL, future!fic

Author's notes: For [livejournal.com profile] clinck! She requested "happily ever after" fic without tears. I feel like I cheated a little, what with the drabbly nature of this fic... sorry! Regardless, this is for [livejournal.com profile] clinck's TezRyo Revival!

It's the most highly sought-after information in the sports circles for weeks. Everyone has a theory, or else a guess, or else blurry, off-centre photographic evidence that's "sure proof," but no one is absolutely positive of what's become of them. After the press conference a month prior at which they announced that yes, they were retiring after the US Open, and yes, they were both retiring, and yes, they were retiring together, they had dutifully answered the onslaught of whys and whens and hows, but consistently declined to give any indication of where.

And so the current first and third ranked tennis plays in the world disappear just like that, without fanfare or fuss, or even a final word to the public. They're just gone, and while the columnists and commentators mourn the loss of such talented players in the professional tennis world, the magazines and the tabloids hypothesize as to what has become of them.

At first, there are cries of affairs with older women or else younger boys, with movie stars and pop idols and fellow athletes. There are stories of divorce, of fights and separations, but when no evidence to support any of these stories surfaces, they fall away to guesses of private islands in Italy and secluded villas in the south of France and glitzy mansions on Beverly Hills or else Palm Beach. But wherever they are, they're well hidden, and so people keep guessing, keep making up stories until something else more interesting distracts the spotlight elsewhere and people simply forget.

But even while they are guessing, no one ever figures that the two most talented tennis players in the world might end up right back where they started, in the suburbs of Tokyo, with one adopted child enrolled in the modest middle school at which they met. No one ever guesses that Tezuka Kunimitsu might end up coaching tennis for middle school boys, no one ever guesses that Echizen Ryoma might spend his days taking care of kittens and tutoring old teammates' children in tennis. But yet, this is where they are, and this is what makes them happy, and no matter what anyone says or thinks, that's all that matters, in the end.
