The phone rang.
"Hello?" Even when he was answering the phone at almost three in the morning, Atobe sounded as suave as ever, of course. Especially since the number listed had been Tezuka's.
"Where is he?" Tezuka's voice on the other end of the line was stiff and uncomfortable, and Atobe almost laughed. Almost.
"Ore-sama is sure he doesn't know what you're talking about," he drawled instead.
"..." Tezuka appeared to be speechless. Atobe was pleased.
"Tezuka~? Have I lost you?" He knew the line hadn't cut off, but there was never, ever a bad time to antagonize Tezuka.
"... Atobe. It is two-fifty-three am. Ryoma left to visit you at one this afternoon. Where is he?" The tone in Tezuka's voice sounded very much like if Atobe had been within arm's range, Tezuka might have throttled him. This time, he did laugh.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry... I must have simply tired him out. He's asleep now, you know, and I'd hate to wake him--"
"I will be over in ten minutes to pick him up." And then the line cut dead.
With a sigh, Atobe rose from the comfort of his own bed and padded down the hall to one of the guest rooms, not bothering to knock. Inside, sure enough, he found Echizen Ryoma passed out cold, still dressed in his Seigaku High Regular's jersey, on the bed. Flicking the light on and watching Echizen blink awake, he rolled his eyes. "Oi, brat, your Buchou's coming to get you and I think he wants my head, so you'd better get up. Honestly, I don't know whether you ought to be offended in his lack of faith in you or if I ought to be complimented in his faith in my seduction skills."
A moment passed while Echizen blinked and looked around. "... Where am I?"
Atobe sighed again. "A guest room on my estate."
"...Why?"
Atobe couldn't help it this time, he strode across the room and smacked Echizen, if lightly, across the face. Echizen looked up at him, obviously still confused, and Atobe shook his head in exasperation at having to explain.
"I told you, brat, not to use Muga no Kiyochi during a pickup match."
