Haha, sorry but that's one of my OTPs -- I'll never read him with anyone else :) I'm perfectly fine seeing friendship fics, because you cannot deny his relationships with characters like Shishido and Hiyoshi, but 1) Silver Pair's just got way more to them than anything I've seen with Gakuto--Shishido and Gakuto push each other's buttons too much and don't seem to really have too much in common.

Oshitari and Gakuto have chemistry more than anything, a mutual respect and seem to get along for all intents and purposes. Doubles in canon seems to do that to characters, and Gakuto's stated that he only plays doubles--so he definitely seems to be open to relying on someone else and being "in tune" with them. I absolutely love listening to their SPIRAL duet, too, as it's a good description of why I like their relationship :)

Anyways, that's what makes me like their canon relationship -- and then their potential as more than that is just building off of it :)

That makes sense. With Shishido, it's more because of the OVA than anything... baby!Gakuto and baby!Shishido seem to have so much chemistry that I can't help think they were together in first year or something. XD;;; Of course, I can't deny Silver Pair, but watching 'Fuun Shounen Atobe" really made me not be able to deny living Shishido with Gakuto, either. XD;;

Don't get me wrong - Oshitari and Gakuto was one of my very first Prince of Tennis ships, and I fought very much against liking anything else, but the writers of the OVAs seem to like to push Gakuto around on other people, and so that kind of broke my "don't read anything but OshiGaku" stance. XD; Still, I definitely agree with all yours points, and I do love the two of them together.

I really don't pair him with anyone. I normally see him with Yuushi or Hiyoshi and if I had to choose, he's okay with Yuushi. In canon, they play off of each other well and are complementary but I pair Yuushi up with others over Gakuto so Bad Bangs Boy is usually left in the dust.

Hm, maybe I should have made a button for that. Sorry! That definitely makes sense... I just have an inordinate love for Gakuto. XD;;

I'm going to have to go with Oshitari as well ^^; I really like him with Piyo, too, but that hasn't overtaken Dirty Pair yet. They were kind of my first tenipuri OTP, so even if I don't read them as much anymore, they definitely have a special place in my heart...and in my layout? XD;;

Aww. XD;; Well, they were my layout for a while, too, but, honestly, a lot of my drive behind liking them together recently has been because of Saitou and Ruito. Those two have more chemistry together than most other TeniMyu pairs, and it really shows on stage. Maybe I just need to go back and rewatch the anime; it's been a while (a year :D), but I feel like I liked Yuushi with Gakuto out of default, because that's what was expected and because they played doubles. I don't remember well enough, but I almost feel like there's more chemistry in canon between Hiyoshi and Gakuto in that one OVA episode and Shishido and Gakuto in Fuun Shounen Atobe than there was between Yuushi and Gakuto in the series (because that was before the writers realized their target audience? idk. XD;) Of course, it may just be because I watched the latter two more recently, too.

...mm, maybe I should go read some dirty pair fic now. XD;

It's true that Saitou and Ruito's portrayal helps a lot XD;; I see your point, though...it's like, because it's been a while since I watched the anime, my perception of them has been really shaped by fic. I wish I had time to rewatch it :/ But to be fair, I would need to watch the OVA as well and compare XD

Yeah, exactly. And while fandom is excellent, sometimes I feel like, especially with prince of tennis, I have to go back to canon and figure out what I really think. It's actually a problem that happens to me a lot with Mizuki, because fandom his this little tendency to make him into a woman. But you really ought to watch the OVA... that episode is ridiculous. XD;

Really? Even when I first saw it, and I was super resisting wanting to ship them, I couldn't help but see it a little. The way Shishido totally melts when Gakuto yells at him, and he doesn't snap back at him, but is just like "...see?" And the way he responds to Gakuto's sweets/temptress face. And just... everything about the two of them together. XD; It's adorable.

XD It's definitely on my to-do list. Maybe we can watch it when I come visit you.

Honestly, I haven't read a lot of other Gakuto pairings - which is why I voted for OshiGaku, but as I do enjoy odd pairs and am open to most others as long as it does present some sort of explanation (no matter how vague), I don't see how pairing him up with anyone else wouldn't work. HiyoGaku is really cute, and we see some hint of ShishiGaku in the OVA. ~~Once upon a time, I used to ship Atobe/Gaku and Gaku/Jirou, too.~~

XD; I kind of am of the school of thought where there's evidence to ship him with just about everyone, so I do. XD; ~~Though I never got the AtoGaku thing... :x I just don't see how it could make any sense.~~

Well, there's nothing wrong with shipping him with just about everyone. I do that with some characters myself. Never in one setting though; rule of multiple ships entails that you don't have everyone tripping on their toes and madly in love with one character unless there's a distinct setting for it. Or a few of them have had some mysterious Inui concoction. ;)

AtoGaku depends on characterization. Mm. Actually, any pairing would. It depends how you view them. Atobe would drive Gakuto crazy, I admit, but in a probable 'relationship', it'd go both ways. I see them as being impulsive on different levels, I see one character creeping the other out (not in the Inui or Mizuki way). I see growing up and them seeing each other in a new light, too. I guess more work goes into developing them rather than taking them as an established pair.

XD; yeah. He's not like Golden Pair or Silver Pair where there's a lot of evidence towards one solid pairing (not to say that one can't ship the members of either of those with others, I'm just saying there's lots of canon evidence), he has quite a bit of wiggle room, and I have fun with it. :)

Hmm, I can see how, perhaps, they might be compatible in some situations, but it's not really on the top of my "this is likely to happen in the future" list. Unless there was some event that left them stuck together, I don't think Gakuto would ever be on Atobe's radar, just because Atobe likes to be "at the top" so to speak. The people I see being compatible with Atobe - Tezuka, Ryoma, Sanada - are all people he considers to be at his level, and though I can see, should some event happen, Gakuto and Atobe having some chemistry together, I don't see it being something that would naturally happen. Honestly, I feel the same way about Atobe and Jirou, which is a vastly popular pairing for reasons I don't understand.

I just adore Gakuto with Oshitari Y. I know it's the canon or semi-canon pairing, but they're perfect for each other. Gakuto needs Oshitari's stability and Oshitari is the one who can rein Gakuto in. ;)

Despite that I really do like the pairing of Gakuto and Oshitari Yuushi quite a bit, I'm disinclined to agree with you. Of the characters that have "semi-canon" pairings (a term that I'm hesitant to use because, really, the only canon pairing is Yuuji and Koharu), I would not list Yuushi and Gakuto amongst them. Pairs like Golden Pair and Silver Pair I can see why people would consider them "semi-canon" because they have a kind of stability that not all doubles pairs have. They rarely, if ever, play doubles with another character, and they seem to spend a lot of outside time with one another, as well. They have a canon trust and understanding that other pairs may not have. Pairings like Rikkai D1 and Sanada/Yukimura I also understand, because they have an intimacy that other pairings do not have. D1 obviously are one such a close level that they can pretend to be one another with little trouble at all, and Sanada and Yukimura have known one another for a very long time and obviously have a very deep understanding and relationship.

However, one sees very little of this from Oshitari Yuushi and Gakuto. Though they do play doubles and have wonderful doubles chemistry in canon, they do not stay together as a doubles partnership by the time Nationals rolls around, and though there is trust and understanding, it is questionable, canonically speaking, just how deep it is. I understand that, in fanfiction, it is very easy to develop their relationship into something more, but as far as canon goes, very little is presented factually to establish a romantic relationship between the two.

That all being said, I, of course, am not at all opposed to your choice. :) OshiGaku was my first Price of Tennis OTP after Golden Pair, and they will always have a place in my heart. I simply like playing the devil's advocate and writing meta type things. ^^;;

I have to confess that I spend most of my PoT fan time ~~obsessing~~ thinking about the Seigaku regulars more than the other teams' characters. So I haven't done a lot of musing on Oshitaro/Gakuto, but I may be writing a fanfic involving them soon if my schedule clears a bit, so your thoughts have been helpful to me - thanks. :)

Which is ShishiGaku. :D Needless to say, I don't see that very often~ Although it is more frequent now because of Mini!Hyoutei.

Thanks so much. I really love Gakuto, just in general, and he's my favourite character out of the whole series, so I just like to play with him. Though I started out very traditional, as I watched the series, I realized there are so many things you can do with him and so many people you can pair him with, and I have fun with it. Actually, I don't know if you're interested in fic, but I wrote this little thing which is Gakuto centric and has a variety of pairings... please excuse the self-pimp. ^^;;
