Finished~
Ah! Finally, finally, I have finished Harry Potter six. I don't really feel any better than when I started, save for the fact that I can say I've read it and know what everyone's going on about now. If it wasn't so popular, I might go so far as to say that was a considerable waste of time -_-; But hey. Now I can reflect on the storyline for a little while before promptly forgetting eerything that happened (I went through the whole book having not a clue what went on in the 5th book, or what Occulamency or Legilimency or whatever were...I can't remember much about the 5th book at all! XP;;;))
Now, for some reflections. Spoilers for HBP. You have been warned.
Okay, so, fist off, I'd like to say that I was expecting way more Ron/Hermione in this book. They didn't talk to eachother for like half the book, and it was irritating! They made a huge deal about it, so why not actually let it happen?
Secondly, it really, really irks me how Harry is always right. Like about Draco. And Snape. And LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE FRIGGEN UNIVERSE. He's all "I'm so modest~" but he's so not. He's got a huge ego, and he's always so sure he's right because he always is! He needs to be wrong about things occasionally, because it's not right that he's always the right one.
Thirdly, why did Dumbledore trust Snape in the first place? I really didn't get that part. Am I to believe that the most powerful good wizard in all of the wizarding world is actually just a senile old manlike Noriko Ukai's husband? That just doesn't seem right. Snape really displayed no signs of being overly loyal or trustworthy, so why was Dumbledore so sure that he was good, especially since Dumbledore was so wrong. I Just don't get it. I mean, all that Snape did was be all "I'm being a spy for you." (you have to imagine the voice of snape from Potter Puppet Pals, or it doesn't have the same effect. xD;)
Additionally, I think Dumbledore was a bit OOC in this entire book. I know that's not entirely fair to say, because, after all, it is Rowling's choice what she does with her characters, but I had the feeling he was a little too on-edge with Harry, especially because, in certain cases, such as with Draco, he had taken Harry's ideas into consideration. Granted, Harry was being a prat and would bitchslap him if I was Dumbledore, but it just seemed odd for Dumbledore to go all "SHUT UP LOSER" (again, imagine the Potter Puppet Pals voice) on him. The part where he went all Asian-parent on Harry for not getting the memory was a bit amusing, though. xD
Fourthly, the Draco Malfoy character seemed a bit dead in this book. For all that Harry worried and stalked and obsessed about him, he really didn't do anything all that important. Ok, so he was working for Voldemort. Big whoop-de-doo. He had maybe 20 lines of dialogue in the whole book and interacted with Harry all of three times. I, personally, liked Draco! I get that he was holed up in the ROR most of the time, but, really. Couldn't they add a little more of him in? He had like no personallity! He wasn't even arrogant or anyway! If anything, the majority of the time, he seemed firghtened! And he blew off Harry like twice. What's with that. Srsly.
Fifthly, I really wasn't very upset when Dumbldore died. It was a little weird, because I cried when Cedric died, and I was pretty sad when Sirius died, but when Dumbledore died, I was like "Well, saw that coming," and that was it. I was a lot more worried that Hagrid was going to die when the Death Eaters lit his house on fire. xD;;; I don't know why this was, maybe it was the inaffectiveness of the author to portray Dumbledore's death as saddening, or maybe I'm turning into an unfeeling lump. Or maybe I just don't care anymore. I don't know. But it was weird.
All in all, I had the feeling that this book went on and on and on and nothing really happened until the last 3 chapters. The life story of Voldemort was a nice touch, but it was hardly enough to take up 27 chapters. And most of the chapters were either Professor Slughorn being annoying or romantic problems. I also don't think they went into the whole Half-Blood Prince thing enough. After all, that is what the book is called. It was more Hermione was like "O, btw, guys, Snape is teh HBP, lol." And they were like "lol." And then that was it. IT seemed a bit blunt after all the goings-on. *shrug*
As an after-thought, the only things I'm really concerned about for book seven is if Hogwarts reopens (I would be sad if that didn't happen), if so, who the DADA teacher is (did Voldemort curse the position or something? I didn't quite get that either.), and who "RAB" is. *shrug* And despite OTPs and silly things like that, Lupin/Tonks is very cute. I'm going to name my kid Nymphadora. xD
I doubt anyone's going to read all of that crap, but I put it there anyway to get it out of my system. xD Now maybe I'll go make some Harry Potter icons or something.
